What Games Are You Watching?

If you’re a college football fan tomorrow is your Christmas, New Years and Spring Break all rolled into one. Tomorrow is the best college football Saturday in years. Yes, there are the five match ups of top 25 teams playing one another. Those are the marquee games on Saturday and they have been talked about to death. If you’re a real college football fan, there are three more games that are just as intriguing…

Allow me:

No. 24 Northwestern at Penn State:

If you hate Penn State, like I do, you’ll tune in just to, hopefully, watch them lose. But there is more to this game. Northwestern is quietly putting together a very nice season. Are they a national title contender? Hell no. But when you play in a joke of a conference like the Big 10, the Rose Bowl is your praise. Northwestern might just have enough to fly west this winter. And don’t even get me started on the moral issues this games raises. Northwestern is one of the finest academic institutions in the country, and Penn State…well, never mind. I’ll be pulling hard for Northwestern in this game. They represent everything college sports should be; and Penn State…well, never mind.

Michigan at Purdue

Both teams open Big 10 play against one another this weekend. This will be Denard “Turnover “ Robinson’s first game back since making Notre Dame’s awful secondary look like the ‘85 Bears. Michigan’s offense scored a combined 20 points against the only two top 20 teams they’ve played so far. The only thing worse than their offense is their defense. This is nothing new. Michigan forgot how to play defense before Lloyd “Jim Tressel’s Favorite” Carr retired. Purdue on the other hand has a stout defense. Yes their offense is bad, but even Purdue will be able to move the ball against this Michigan D. This will be yet another game that has me glued to the TV, hopefully the good guys win. Go Boilermakers!!!

Miami (FL) at No. 9 Notre Dame

Notre Dame has already accomplished so much this year, with already having won the Big 10. Now the Irish have their sights set on a BCS National Title. Let me be the first to say……..not so fast my friend!!!! While Notre Dame’s defense seems to be much improved, it’s hard to tell when you play Navy and three teams from the worse conference in college football. Notre Dame still has plenty of holes, and Miami is MUCH better than expected. Yes the Canes laid a HUGE egg against Kansas State, but if you take that game out, they’re averaging 45 points per game. Using that same logic, Miami’s defense is giving up 28 points per game. Notre Dames offense has only scored more than 20 points once all season, thanks Navy!!! It’s the old battle of Catholic’s vs. Convicts!!! I’m pulling hard for the bad guys.
