In the case of Richie Incognito we decided to put the vote to our readers (and listeners). You have all spoken and your voices have been heard. With 65% of the votes coming in as “Yes,” we have officially inducted Richie Incognito into our Douche Hall of Fame.
Troubles for Incognito started well before the whole Jonathan Martin “bullying” situation. When Incognito was a true freshman at Nebraska he started 13 of 14 games. The one game missed was due to an in-game fight against Penn State. He was also suspended the following spring but the reason was never disclosed. In 2004 Incognito was charged with three counts of assault due to a fight at a party…he was only found guilty of one misdemeanor assault charge and was fined $500. After being suspended from Nebraska that fall, he withdrew from Nebraska and enrolled at Oregon. One week after being enrolled at Oregon Incognito was kicked of the team for not meeting “conditions that were set forth for him to be admitted.”
The following spring he declared for the NFL Draft and was taken by the St. Louis Rams. Tony Dungy and Scott Pioli both removed him from their draft boards due to serious character concerns. Incognito started immediately for the Rams and earned the “NFL’s dirtiest player” award by the Sporting News, who had polled 99 NFL players. He was released in 2009 by the Rams after several incidents with fans and head coach, Steve Spagnuolo. He played for the Bills for three games to finish out that season but his next stop would be the most infamous.
In Miami, Incognito was charged for punching a security guard at a Miami Beach hotel but the charges were later dropped. There was also an incident at a golf outing in which Incognito reportedly rubbed his golf club in a girl’s “no no place” and then poured a bottle of water over her head. After that we all know the rest, including the Jonathan Martin situation and other acts that have been captured on video of him at a bar going “crazy,” smashing up his Ferrari with a baseball bat, calling out everyone on Twitter and finally this ended with him checking into a facility.
Welcome, Richie! Your journey has been long but your douche bag ways have finally landed you in the Junior D Sports Douche Hall of Fame!
