Welcome to the 2013 NFL regular season! Thursday night started off the season with a bang. Peyton Manning proved that he is still a rock star and the Ravens proved that they aren’t scary at all. Well, with the first game in the books are you ready for some football?!

Last year was the inaugural season of my Fantastic Four. I learned that picking against the spread was tougher than I originally thought. So, with that being said, I have decided to pick against the spread once again this season because, win or lose, real men pick against the spread! Let’s see if this season turns out any better than 2012.

Let the fun begin…

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints (-3)falcons saints

Right off the bat I’m going with a tough matchup. Saying that this game will be a shootout is like saying that Amanda Bynes is a crazy bitch. Nothing like stating the obvious. Anyway, I don’t know that either team’s defense can stop the other’s offense. We’ll actually get to see if having Sean Payton back on the sidelines really makes a difference for the Saints. I said it on the podcast this week and I’ll stick with it…the Falcons will represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this season and I think they’ll start off by winning this game straight up. Since the over/under is set at 55 I’ll take the over on this game.

Pick: Atlanta Falcons (+3)

Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers (-4.5)packers 49ers

I picked both of these teams to win their division and go deep in the playoffs this year. The advantage in this game goes to the 49ers because of their defense. Even though the Packers have upgraded their defense, on paper, there is no way to know how good they will be until game time. The Niners have the advantage with the ground game as well. The Packers do have Aaron Rodgers and even though he showed poor judgment this offseason by backing Ryan Braun on Twitter, his on the field judgment should be better this Sunday. The over/under is 48.5 and I’ll take the under on this one.

Pick: San Francisco 49ers (-4.5)

New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys (-3)giants cowboys

This is a great Sunday night game. Whoever does the NFL scheduling got it right with Dallas and New York on Sunday night. Both teams are good but not great…it’s always a good game though. This is a game that the Giants should win. Dallas always seems to make the big late game mistake to lose against the Giants. Dallas, however, is better on offense and their offensive line has improved a little. I don’t know why but I think that Dallas will come out on fire in this game. Call it what you will but I think the Giants are in trouble. The over/under is 49…I’d take the under.

Pick: Dallas Cowboys (-3)

Houston Texans at San Diego Chargers (+3.5)texans chargers

The fact that the Chargers are only getting 3 ½ points is shocking to me. I know it’s the NFL and anyone can win on any given Sunday but I don’t think that’s going to happen in this game. The Chargers have a new coaching staff, a new offensive system and Phillip Rivers has looked more like Jeanie Rivers (yeah, that’s a porn star) in the past few seasons. Meanwhile, Houston has a great running game, very good passing game and a defense that will punch you in the mouth. Yeah, sure, I see why the Chargers are only getting 3 ½ points. Take the Texans and give the points all day! The over/under is 44…I’ll take the over in this one.

Pick: Houston Texans (-3.5)
