Is Peyton A Fantasy Football Option?

Since signing with the Denver Broncos, much has been made about the effect it will have on the offense in Denver.  I don’t think the Manning signing will make as big of a bang as most people think.  Have we seen Peyton throw since the four neck surgeries? Yes, if you count that Zapruder film from a cell phone camera that conveniently leaked out to the media.  Do we know what will happen when Peyton gets into his first game and gets hit for the first time? No.  There’s no telling what will happen in that situation.  Everyone that knows me knows that I am a huge Dolphins fan, but that has nothing to do with my opinion on this matter.  I had the same questions when Miami was the front runner in the Manning race.

Who is Denver’s Tight End? Who do they have at Wide Receiver besides an unproven Demaryius Thomas?  If all goes well Manning will raise the level of play at all of the skilled positions.  No one has talked about the fact that Manning might have some rust on that golden arm.  No one has discussed what will happen when he gets planted into the ground by a solid hit.  These are all things that need to be discussed.  They need to be discussed, especially in the fantasy football realm.  When preparing for your fantasy football draft you need to think about these things.  The last situation you need is having Manning as your starting QB and in week 3 he goes down with an injury and you’re stuck with Alex Smith or Mark Sanchez.

I’m a wait and see kind of guy when it comes to my team and how they will do in 2012 (which I’m guessing will be bad).  When it comes to fantasy football you have to be Nostradamus.  You have to predict what will happen and prepare for the worst.  The best advice I can give is don’t draft Manning early and if you do draft him, make sure you have a solid starter and/or backup.  This is the first time I’ve thought this, but maybe this year you should draft Eli over Peyton.

Here’s another thought…for all of you Tebow fans out there…his career is over.  Hope you enjoyed the ride last year but even if the kid had an arm the Jets wouldn’t know how to use it.  They won’t be able to help him get better as a pocket passer and he will be a great gimmick QB at best in 2012.  Please don’t send “Tebow is awesome” emails to me either.  If you watch football you know the game you know he cannot throw the football AT ALL.  That is the end of the time that I will devote to Tim Tebow in 2012.  Hope you enjoyed it.
